Cloudy, cold with freezing rain possible this afternoon, evening

Today will be cloudy and cold, with a period of freezing rain possible this afternoon and overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Rain will be likely starting this evening, and is expected to continue through the night, with a chance for a thunderstorm soon after midnight.

Highs will be around 35 degrees, though overnight temperatures will rise to around 42 degrees by 5 a.m.

On Thursday, it will be cool and breezy with a lingering chance of rain. Highs will be around 57 degrees.

Overnight it will be partly cloudy with a low around 29 degrees.

Friday will be mostly sunny during the day with highs around 40 degrees.

On Friday night, though, the NWS predicted a slight chance of snow and rain before midnight, changing to a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain in the early-morning hours. Lows will be around 30 degrees.
