West Side celebrates after a three-run home run by Cam Carter during a victory over Mount Vernon in the second round of the Little League state tournament on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Bevelhymer Park in New Albany.

Cam Carter hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to lead West Side to a 7-2 victory against Mount Vernon in the third round of the Little League state tournament at Bevelhymer Park.

The Hamilton team advanced to a 5:30 p.m. Thursday game against New Albany or Galion. If it wins there, it would play at 10 a.m. Saturday, needing one victory to advance to the Great Lakes Region tournament Aug. 4-10 in Westfield, Ind.

West Side overcame an early 2-0 deficit to beat Mount Vernon.

Matt Ponatoski scored the first run for West Side on a fielder’s choice groundout in the third. West Side scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead and put the game away with Carter’s three-run home run an inning later.

Connor Cuozzo didn’t give up a run after the first. He pitched 5 2/3 innings.

West Side won its first game Saturday, 13-1 over Maumee, and then beat Tallmadge 13-2 on Sunday.
