SWOFCA Ron Woyan East-West All-Star Game: 5 things to know

The 43rd Southwestern Ohio Football Coaches Association Ron Woyan East-West All-Star Game will held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Kings High School.

Here are five things to know about the event:

1. Cost is $5 at the gate. All proceeds will provide scholarships to area students. Scholarship money totaling $10,000 will be presented at halftime.

2. Thirteen players from the Journal-News coverage area are scheduled to participate. They’ll represent Hamilton, Badin, Ross, Talawanda, Edgewood, Lakota East, Franklin and Lebanon.

3. Fairfield’s Jerred McGuire, who played in last year’s SWOFCA event, went on to Davenport University and was the Panthers’ third-leading scorer with 17 points (5-of-6 on extra points, 4-of-6 on field goals) last fall. He also punted 54 times for a 38.1-yard average.

4. There have only been four shutouts in this event. The West won 35-0 in 1991, 6-0 in 2003 and 35-0 in 2006, and the East won 18-0 in 1997.

5. West head coach Kali Jones is a Dayton native. He was a player at Chaminade Julienne and Colonel White, later coaching as an assistant at Wayne and Dayton Christian.
