Alyssa Wagner struck out 21 batters and Bri Rose blasted a three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Friday as Monroe High School’s softball team defeated host Tippecanoe 4-1 in Division II sectional play.

The fourth-seeded Hornets improved to 17-3, while the second-seeded Red Devils fell to 20-6.

Tippecanoe tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh inning and had the bases loaded with no outs, but couldn’t score again.

The home run for Rose, a freshman, was her second of the season and saddled Tipp pitcher Kaylee Runyon with the loss. Wagner, a junior, now has 237 strikeouts in 113 innings this year.

Monroe will face No. 7 seed Chaminade Julienne in a 5 p.m. district semifinal Tuesday at West Carrollton.
