Prep softball: CCS freshman fires perfect game in string of shutouts

Briahna Bush is having quite a freshman season in the circle for the Cincinnati Christian School softball team.

Bush threw a five-inning perfect game with 12 strikeouts in a 17-0 victory over St. Bernard on Monday. It was her second no-hitter of the year.

She pushed her shutout total to nine with 6-0 and 14-0 wins over Lockland on Tuesday. Both games were one-hitters with 18 total strikeouts in the doubleheader.

Bush has 148 strikeouts in 68.2 innings this season with a 10-2 record and a 0.82 earned run average. Her catcher is sophomore Ashley Veldkamp.

The Cougars have five players hitting over .400 — Jenna Monk (.581, nine home runs, 26 RBIs), Bush (.512, 18 RBIs), Kayla Stacy (.438, 16 RBIs), Merrick Heid (.414, 13 RBIs) and Veldkamp (.412, 15 RBIs).

CCS is 10-4 overall and 9-2 in the Miami Valley Conference Scarlet Division. The Cougars trail first-place Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy by one game.

CHCA will travel to Seven Hills on Wednesday and host Cincinnati Christian on Saturday. The Cougars will also be at home against North College Hill next Wednesday.
