The streak is over.

Lakota West snapped Colerain’s 83-game Greater Miami Conference winning streak Friday night, opening the season with a 10-0 road win over the Cardinals.

Matthew Howard booted a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter and Aden Miller scored on a 19-yard run in the fourth for the Firebirds (1-0).

West is coached by former longtime Colerain coach Tom Bolden.

The Cardinals, who have won 20 straight GMC titles, last lost a conference game on Oct. 3, 2008 to Middletown. Colerain’s winning streak over GMC foes was 87, including playoffs, since the loss to the Middies.
