How did Hamilton High come to be known as Big Blue?

The origins of most local high school mascots can be murky thanks to their longevity.

And no one is absolutely certain why Hamilton Schools are Big Blue.

But theories abound about the nickname, which is more than a century old.

One of the most popular is that Kentucky migrants who came to the Butler County city seat in the early 1900s for industrial jobs brought with them their affection for the University of Kentucky’s Big Blue athletic teams.
