Lakota East and Lakota West to host annual Tag Day fundraiser

Community event to support band programs.

By Ginny McCabe

Lakota East High School and Lakota West High School band members will go door-to-door in small groups through West Chester and Liberty Township neighborhoods on Tag Day, August 26, to request tax-deductible donations for each of the school’s band programs. Lakota East’s Tag Day event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Lakota West will hold their Tag Day from 8 a.m. to noon.

Tag Day is the biggest annual fundraiser for the school’s band programs. All proceeds benefit and go directly to each respective school’s band programs. The collected funds go toward uniform purchase, maintenance and other items beyond what is supplied by the school district.

On Tag Day, band members wearing band apparel will knock on doors throughout the community. On-the-spot donors will receive a “tag” (tax-deductible receipt). If no one is home, the band members will leave a packet of Tag Day information, including instructions on how to contribute after August 26.

The award-winning Lakota East High School band program includes five concert bands, three jazz bands and The Lakota East Marching Thunderhawks, a Class AA marching band.

Lakota West’s award-winning band program includes three concert bands, a jazz ensemble and a jazz combo and The Lakota West Marching Firebirds, a Class AA marching band. Pep band and Pit Orchestra are also offered to the students as after-school experiences.
