College Insider: Ball State women’s soccer team has local flair

Abby Milillo erupted for a career-high five points on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 18, in a Ball State University women’s soccer victory.

The Badin High School graduate tallied two goals and one assist for the visiting Cardinals, who defeated Duquesne 3-2 in Pittsburgh.

Milillo, a redshirt sophomore midfielder, entered the game with four career points.

Several other local players are contributing for Ball State (6-2). Senior defender Kristina Anderson (Badin) has one assist, sophomore midfielder Maggie Brown (Lakota West) has one goal and one assist, and sophomore Brigit Reder (Lakota West) was recently named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman defender Brittney Graham (Lakota East) is also on the roster.

The Cardinals begin MAC play at home against Western Michigan on Friday.

Football

Sophomore tight end Andy Mick (Badin) and sophomore defensive end Joe Richter (St. Xavier), a Fairfield native, are starting for Ohio Dominican (0-2).

Mick has three catches for 31 yards. Richter has three solo tackles and six assists.

Men’s golf

Otterbein senior Alex Stansell (Fairfield) tied for seventh place in the individual standings Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Tournament.

Stansell had a 27-hole total of 112 strokes, five behind the medalist, at Fowler’s Mill Golf Course in Chesterland.

Host John Carroll topped the nine-team field with a 444 total. Otterbein was second at 449.

Men’s soccer

Senior defender Aaron Miller (Fairfield) leads Union (Ky.) in scoring this year with two goals and one assist.

The Bulldogs are 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Volleyball

Freshman defensive specialist Anna Prickel (Ursuline), a West Chester native, has 68 digs and 10 aces this season for Northern Kentucky.

The Norse are 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
