High School Football: What to know about Week 3 matchups

Plenty of area rivals clash in Week 3 of the high school football season.

Here is a breakdown of area games:

LAKOTA EAST AT HAMILTON

The Big Blue (1-1) are coming off a 31-0 loss to Lakota West, while the Thunderhawks (1-1) beat Mason 20-13. Hamilton beat Lakota East 21-0 last season to end an 11-game losing streak against its Greater Miami Conference rival.

LAKOTA WEST AT PRINCETON

Two of the top teams in the Cincinnati area square off. The Firebirds (2-0) travel to face the Vikings (1-1) in a GMC showdown. Lakota West has won four of the last five against Princeton.

FAIRFIELD AT SYCAMORE

The Aviators (0-2) have won two of the last three against the Indians (1-1). Sycamore has been outscored 94-7 in the first two games of the season.

MIDDLETOWN AT COLERAIN

The Middies are off to a 2-0 start for the second straight season. Middletown has a two-game winning streak against Colerain (0-2), which is coming off a 33-13 loss to Fairfield. This is Colerain’s third straight home game.

OAK HILLS AT MASON

The Comets (0-2) have a seven-game winning streak against the Highlanders (1-1). Mason is coming off road losses to Gahanna Lincoln (24-10) and Lakota East (20-13).

BADIN AT EDGEWOOD

Both teams are searching for a much-needed win, and both are coming off back-to-back losses against tough competition. Badin (0-2) and Edgewood (0-2) faced each other in Week 3 a season ago, with the Rams coming out on top 42-14.

FENWICK AT MONROE

Monroe coach Mark Mueller will face his former team. Mueller was Fenwick’s coach from 2021-2023. The Hornets (1-1) lost to the Falcons (1-1) last season 23-20.

ROSS AT NORTHWEST

The Rams (0-2) are 4-1 against the Knights (0-2) in the last five meetings. Riley Caldwell rushed for 180 yards and five touchdowns last season when Ross beat Northwest 48-3.

EATON AT TALAWANDA

The Brave (0-2) are looking to snap a five-game losing streak dating back to last season. Eaton (2-0) has beaten Talawanda each of the last three seasons.

FRANKLIN AT WASHINGTON C.H.

The Wildcats (1-1) hit the road for the first time this season. Washington (0-2) lost to Western Brown 56-22 in Week 2, while Franklin suffered a 49-0 loss to Marion Local.

BLANCHESTER AT MADISON

The Mohawks (1-1) bounced back from their 52-0 season-opening loss to Preble Shawnee by blanking Gamble Montessori 57-0 in Week 2. The Wildcats (0-2) are coming off losses to Paint Valley (28-14) and Cincinnati Country Day (29-27).

NORTHRIDGE AT CARLISLE

The Indians (1-1) are coming off a 52-36 road loss to Miami East last week, while the Polar Bears (0-2) fell at home 21-16 to Oakwood. Northridge and Carlisle have split the last four contests.

NEW MIAMI AT C4 LIONS, at Carlisle, Sat.

The Vikings are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2020 season. The C4 Lions, a club program, were previously named Middletown Christian.
