Another area 2020 recruit is off the board, and another is staying in Southwest Ohio to play college football.

Lakota West linebacker Daved Jones announced Tuesday he has verbally committed to Cincinnati.

Jones is the No. 32 player in Ohio and the No. 35 inside linebacker in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Jones had 44 tackles and two sacks for the Firebirds last season.

He is the 12th 2020 verbal commitment for UC and the sixth from Ohio. That group also includes Xenia offensive lineman Gavin Gerhardt.

The class is ranked 56th nationally and No. 2 in the AAC behind Memphis.

Jones' commitment comes less than a week after teammate David Afari committed to Miami University.

Other area players to commit from the 2020 class: Fairfield running back Jutahn McClain (Kentucky), Fairfield athlete Sawaiha Ellis (Toledo) and Springfield defensive back Larry Stephens (Toledo).
