College Insider: Rieman, Boyle boost NAIA power Missouri Baptist

Two area players are major contributors for the Missouri Baptist University baseball team, which is ranked ninth in the latest NAIA Top 25 coaches poll.

Junior catcher Austin Rieman, a Badin High School graduate, has made 34 starts for the Spartans and is hitting .342 with eight doubles, 26 RBIs and 17 runs.

Junior pitcher Patrick Boyle (Valley View) is 3-0 with a 4.76 earned run average. He’s started six games and made one relief appearance, collecting 25 strikeouts in 21.2 innings.

Missouri Baptist, located in St. Louis, is 30-6 overall and 14-1 in the American Midwest Conference. The Spartans will travel to Batesville, Ark., for a doubleheader against Lyon College on Friday afternoon.

Softball: Freshman middle infielder Katie Tarter (Fairfield) has a .333 batting average for Mount St. Joseph, which is 9-12-1 overall and 1-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Tarter has three doubles, five RBIs and nine runs. She’s also among the team leaders in on-base percentage (.453).

The Lions will host Manchester in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

Women's tennis: Junior Tori Turner (Lakota West) is 21-10 in singles and 15-13 in doubles this season for Wright State.

In singles, Turner is 14-7 in duals and 7-3 in tournaments. Her dual breakdown is 0-1 at No. 3, 5-1 at No. 4, 6-5 at No. 5 and 3-0 at No. 6.

The majority of Turner’s doubles play has been with freshman Taylor Culbertson. They are 12-10 overall and 9-8 in duals, all at the No. 1 position.

The Raiders are 14-7 overall and 2-3 in the Horizon League. They will host St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday at noon.

Women's lacrosse: Sophomore attacker Taylor Swartz (Fenwick) has six goals and four assists for Siena Heights (Mich.), which is 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

The Saints will be at home against Davenport on Thursday at 7 p.m.
