Boro, East grads key Ball State’s early success

Two local players have helped Ball State University’s baseball team surge near the top of the Mid-American Conference West Division.

Freshman third baseman Sean Kennedy, a Springboro High School graduate, and freshman catcher Jarett Rindfleisch (Lakota East) are playing key roles for the Cardinals, who are 22-10 overall and 7-1 in the MAC. They trail only Central Michigan (8-1) in the West.

Kennedy is BSU’s top hitter with a .370 average. He’s made 29 starts and has two doubles, a triple and nine RBIs.

Rindfleisch has started 23 times and is hitting .312 with four doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs.

Ball State returns to action at Butler on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Women's lacrosse: Senior midfielder Sammy Koerner (Badin), junior midfielder Loryn Bryson (Carlisle) and sophomore attacker Ashley Fox (Monroe) have all been in the starting lineup every game for Wilmington (0-9).

Koerner is the Quakers’ No. 2 scorer with 19 goals and two assists. Bryson has tallied five goals.

Wilmington plays at Franklin (Ind.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• Sophomore midfielder Morgan Hunsaker (Springboro) has 10 goals and six assists while starting every game for Otterbein (8-3).

Junior midfielder Alanna Schultz (Fenwick) has also made 11 starts for the Cardinals. She has one assist.

Otterbein hosts Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday, April 16, at 5 p.m.

Softball: Junior outfielder Bree Lipscomb (Middletown) leads Miami in doubles (11), home runs (eight) and RBIs (32) while hitting .293.

She’s started every game for the RedHawks, who are 16-17 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference East Division. MU travels to Western Michigan for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday.

Women's golf: Sophomore Ali Green (Lakota West) took fourth place with a 73 and powered Ashland to a fourth-place tie in the 18-team Ohio Dominican Invitational on March 31 at Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick.

Grand Valley State was first with 300 strokes, followed by Northwood (316), Ferris State (319), Ashland (321) and Findlay (321).

Green’s teammate, junior Abby Tepe (Lakota East), tied for 45th place with an 86.

The Eagles will play in the Walsh Invitational on Sunday and Monday in Canton.
