The RedHawks chopped a 35-17 deficit to 51-48 midway through the second half before the Fighting Illini pulled away for the win.
It was the final game for two of the best players in Miami history, Courtney Osborn and Kirsten Olowinski. Osborn had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Olowinski totaled 8 points and 14 boards.
The contest also marked the end of the Maria Fantanarosa era at MU. She was fired April 3 by new athletic director David Sayler after 15 seasons and a 237-212 record as the head coach at her alma mater.

Maggie Boyer’s 20 points paced Miami. She was the only MU player with more than 6.

Miami shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 43-30 lead into halftime and was never seriously challenged down the stretch.
Day and Lancaster grabbed nine rebounds apiece, Motto had seven assists, Merrill totaled seven boards and six assists, and Jackson added five steals. MU committed a season-low 10 turnovers.
