FC Cincinnati to host MLS team in fourth round of U.S. Open Cup

FC Cincinnati will take its U.S. Open Cup run on the road as Major League Soccer teams enter the tournament.

The fourth-round draw took place Thursday on ussoccer.com and sent FCC into a matchup against Minnesota United SC, a second-year MLS club, on June 6 at Nippert Staidum. The match originally was slated as road game for FC Cincinnati, but was changed hours after the draw.

FCC advanced to the fourth round with a 3-1 win at United Soccer League foe Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Wednesday, following a 4-1 extra-time win at home against fourth-division Detroit City in the second round.

FC Cincinnati made a stunning run to the Cup semifinals last year, beating Columbus Crew SC , 1-0, in the fourth round before knocking out the Chicago Fire in penalties the next stage, both games in front of packed crowds at Nippert Stadium. Cincinnati beat Miami FC 1-0 on the road in the quarterfinals before finally falling to MLS team New York Red Bulls 3-2 at Nippert in the semifinals.
