A woman was killed inside a Trenton apartment Wednesday morning during a hostage situation, just hours after another woman’s body was found dead in Madison Twp., according to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.
Butler County sheriff’s deputies went to an apartment at the corner of Sal Boulevard and Dell Drive on Wednesday morning to question a potential suspect involved in the Madison Twp. homicide, he said.
When deputies knocked on the apartment door, there was no answer until about 10 rounds of gunfire were exchanged between the potential suspect and deputies, Jones said.
The deputies retreated after the initial gunfire and negotiated with the suspect, who was holding at least two women hostage, police said.

The potential suspect, a man not yet identified by police, later shot several more rounds at law enforcement officers through the apartment’s windows.
The man eventually walked outside the apartment, released one woman, and put a handgun under his chin and pulled the trigger, Jones said.
The man was conscious and talking to officers and paramedics as he was transported to a local hospital around noon Wednesday, Jones said.
When officers entered into the apartment, they found one woman dead. The woman had been shot, police said.

Jones declined to say if there was a connection among the people in the apartment — the suspect and the two women — or the woman found dead in Madison Twp. around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Woodsdale Road, close to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office shooting range.
The names of the suspect and the two women found dead have not yet been released by police.
Deputies are collecting evidence at three crime scenes: the Trenton apartment, a car parked outside the apartment that may have been where the woman found dead in Madison Twp. was killed, and the area where her body was dumped off Woodsdale Road, the sheriff said.
