What should Middletown’s priorities be this year and beyond? Strategic planning session set

Middletown City Council is set to meet in a Saturday session later this month to discuss a strategic plan moving forward for the new year and moving into 2026.

During the annual planning session on Jan. 25 council will review and establish priority topics for focus throughout the year and to develop the 2026 fiscal year budget.

In an online survey, residents were asked to provide feedback on the priorities they would like the city to focus on in 2025. A council priority is a topic that will receive significant focus throughout the year and be used to form the 2026 fiscal year budget.

The survey asked residents to select topics they thought were most important. The online survey closed Monday at noon.

The topics included are:

  • City redevelopment projects: This category includes city projects such as the Middletown Paperboard, Towne Mall, Renaissance Pointe, etc.
  • Neighborhood improvement: Category includes housing initiatives, the Home Improvement Repair Program, code enforcement, infill housing, redevelopment of the Vail Site, community partnerships, façade improvements and city-owned properties.
  • Public safety and health: Category is for issues related to police, fire, EMS, and public health services.
  • Public work and Infrastructure: Category includes Initiatives such as the installation of EV charging stations, renewable energy projects, gateway beautification, roadway paving and striping, park enhancements and roadway improvements.
  • Economic development: Category includes initiatives to attract, expand, and retain businesses, as well as the Middletown Airport, bus transportation, the Event Center of Middletown and senior services

The Strategic Planning Session is open to the public and will begin at 8 a.m. at the Event Center of Middletown, 3907 Central Ave.
