Brian Rebholz can soon take the ‘interim’ out of his title in West Chester Twp.

Beginning Jan. 1 Rebholz will be the township’s chief of police. He was named interim chief in July, following the June retirement of Chief Joel Herzog.

A 32-year veteran of the department, Rebholz will earn $141,705 annually.

“You have had a long and distinguished career at West Chester Twp. You are an exemplar and a real model for the other police officers and for the staff,’’ said Trustee Mark Welch.

“You have come to your calling and you’ve done a good job at it. You deserve this. You’ve worked really hard at it. The baton is being passed to you and we expect wonderful things from you.”

Rebholz joined the department as an officer in 1992. He’s worked as detective, in the Canine unit, as a SWAT commander, and sergeant. He was promoted to the command staff as captain in 2009 and was named assistant chief seven years later.

“I have always taken great pride in my profession and this department and am incredibly honored to lead this group of exceptional law enforcement professionals,” Rebholz said.

“The West Chester community supports its public servants and that support is inspirational for me and my staff. We strive every day to do better and be better for those we serve and I’m committed to that endeavor.”

Since joining the department, Rebholz has seen an explosion of development, growth in the department, and a dramatic population increase.

“The community has changed dramatically over the years, but the value placed on public safety has not,” Rebholz said.

“Recruiting excellent personnel with focused development and training for our staff will remain a priority for the sustainability of the department. For those seeking a law enforcement career in a community that values their police officers, they will find no better place to work than West Chester Township.”

Before joining West Chester Twp., Rebholz began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a security police specialist in the United States Air Force. He remained in that position until July 1991.

The chief has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan, a master’s degree from Miami University and is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and certified as a law enforcement executive.
