For the 10th time in the past 12 years West Chester Twp. has received the Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction.

“This award puts West Chester Twp., in a very select group,’’ said Joe Braden, a representative from the state auditor’s office.

“The auditor of state’s office audits nearly 6,000 entities (each year) and less than four percent are even eligible for this award.”

The recognition was the township’s 2023 financial audit.

To be eligible for the award an institution must meet several criteria, including a clean audit with no findings for recovery, material findings or violations of public records and ethics.

“This award represents the hard work of all your township employees, the financial staff, and everyone who makes an effort to obtain accounting excellence,’’ Braden said.

Fiscal officer Bruce Jones accepted the award on behalf of the township and praised “the department heads who do an exceptional job day in, day out, month in, month out, compiling the data and submitting it timely and accurately.”

He said finance director Ken Keim went “over and above” when at the last-minute additional data was needed for submission to the state.

Jones said Keim spent a lot of his own time — both at home and the office — getting the requested information after being told initially the submission was complete.
