Warren County school on lockdown during search for suspicious woman

A Franklin Twp. school was placed on a short lockdown Thursday afternoon as police searched for a suspicious woman reportedly carrying an axe, knife and hatchet.

Franklin and Springboro police officers were called after 2 p.m. to assist Warren County Sheriff’s deputies to search a woodline near a church in the area of Pennyroyal Road and Roberts Drive.

Franklin police Chief Russell Whitman said nearby Pennyroyal Elementary School was placed on lockdown and that the school practiced a lockdown dismissal drill as the woman was apprehended about 3 p.m.

“We put the school on lockdown and took a necessary precautions,” Whitman said.

Warren County Chief Deputy Barry Riley confirmed the woman was in custody but had no other information about the incident late Thursday afternoon.
