Tickets go on sale Monday for final game at storied Middletown gym

Tickets for the final game at historic Wade E. Miller Gymnasium and for the grand opening of the new Wade E. Miller Arena will go on sale Monday, according to Middletown City Schools.

FIRST REPORT: Middies to host Big Blue in gym farewell 

The Middies will give Wade E. Miller Gymnasium a final farewell as they host Butler County rival Hamilton Big Blue on Dec. 8. The freshman game will begin at 4:30 p.m.; junior varsity at 6 p.m.; and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

Many former Middies, including Jerry Lucas, are expected to be in attendance for the final game. Both Hamilton and Middletown high schools will wear custom 1950s throwback jerseys for the varsity game. Vintage T-shirts and other gear will also be available for sale that evening.

On Dec. 9, the Middies will open their new, 2,130-seat arena. The girls junior varsity and varsity teams will host Colerain High School at 12:30 and 2 p.m. The boys high school teams will square up against Lima Senior High School at 4:30, 6, and 7:30 p.m.

The new Wade E. Miller Arena will feature many unique amenities such as professional style basketball hoops, four LED video boards, a strength and performance center, spirit store, professional lighting systems, hospitality room, and improved parking and accessibility for all fans, according to the school district.

Tickets for the final game on Dec. 8 and the grand opening Dec. 9 can be purchased between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Nov. 20 in the Athletic Office in the Manchester Building on site at Middletown High School, 601 N. Breiel Blvd.

The athletic office will be closed Nov. 23-24 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Admission prices for both events are $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Wade E. Miller Gymnasium, which opened in 1952, has played host to many memorable games and players over the years, including Middletown legend and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry Lucas.

The Middies had a 76-game overall win streak stretching from 1955-1958.
