Taking two to three hours, they are guided by artists step by step through a featured painting, leaving with their own masterpiece by the end of a session.
Co-owner Emily Davis, of West Chester Twp., said she was a customer at a Liberty Twp. location that closed last spring and received an email that said the business was for sale.
“I wasn’t really looking to own a business at the time, but my curiosity was piqued so I reached out to their corporate headquarters to get additional information,” Davis said.
Davis said owning a business was a dream of hers, but something she thought she would pursue “many years down the road, closer to retirement.”
“My husband and I have three kids under the age of 7 and I had a solid career working in corporate (human resources) for nine years that felt like a safer bet than opening a paint studio,” she said.
After finding out about the opportunity to have her own location of the franchise system based out of Houston, Texas, Davis started trying to figure out ways that she might be able to open her own Pinot’s Palette and retain her corporate job.
But as she examined the possibility from all angles and moved forward with the process of becoming a studio owner, she found her corporate job eliminated as a result of corporate restructuring and downsizing.
After interviewing for several other HR jobs, she and her husband decided to go all in on opening the studio.
“I’ve always loved to paint and wanted to take the opportunity of starting a new career that would be more meaningful to me,” Davis said. “We’re now two weeks into having our studio be open to the public and so happy to have taken this leap.
“My husband works in finance, so he handles the books for the business and I’m responsible for the day to day operations.”
The large, two-room studio, which employs five people other than Davis and her husband, allows guest to take a public class or host a private painting event.
That means an out-of-the-box option for private parties, corporate team building, date night, girls night out, birthday parties, kids camps, bridal showers, bachelorette parties.
Pinot's Palette also can also bring the paint party to a customer by hosting a group painting event at a home, office, conference center or any other venue.
Davis said the team of artists that are joining in what she calls her “adventure” are some of the most inspiring people she’s met.
“Because of them and their talent/passion for their work I’m gaining confidence that we will be successful,” she said.
