The region’s beer scene is about to get a new player.

Specialty nanobrewery/taproom The Common Beer Company plans to open this summer at 126 E. Main St. in downtown Mason next to Comets Pizza and The Mason Grill.

The two-story building will include 1,400 square feet of indoor retail space and a fully functional brewery, with future plans to provide an outside area.

The neighborhood-based brewery will produce all of its products on-site utilizing state-of-the-art, newly manufactured 6.5-barrel brew house equipment supplied by Quiet Giant Brewing Co. It will offer six to eight product lines.

“At the initial opening, we’ll be offering a wide variety of beer styles including, but not limited to, Honey Ale, Weiss, IPA, Wheat and an Extra Special Bitter,” said co-owner Mark Lortz. “Throughout the year, there will be many seasonal offerings that will enable The Common Beer Company to provide our customers with new and different recipes and experiences.”

The Common Beer Company plans to renovate and remodel the building’s exterior and interior.

The business is led by Lortz and his wife Amy, who head a Mason-based, management and ownership group that has more than eight years of microbrewing experience and more than 20 years of customer relationship management and book-keeping skills.

“We chose this site in order to provide this great community with a neighborhood identity in the craft beer industry,” Mark Lortz said. “Ultimately, the Common Beer Company wants to build our community presence and become a destination for both local and abroad clientele. We envision becoming a mainstay business for Mason and help in building the growing downtown brand of Mason.”
