A Colerain Twp. man died Friday afternoon following an accident involving a Kettering Health transport vehicle.

Gian Manuel Cedeno-Melendez, 18, was the driver of a vehicle that was in the crash with the hospital vehicle in the 1000 block of North Third Street, according to the Hamilton Police and Butler County Coroner’s Office.

The Hamilton Police said a 2003 silver Honda Accord driven by Cedeno-Melendez was traveling south on U.S. 127 as it approached 1001 N. Third St. The Kettering Health vehicle was approaching a bend in the road at North Third Street when Cedeno-Melendez’s vehicle crossed left of center, striking the transport vehicle at an angle.

On-scene investigators were not able to calculate the speed of the Accord, but the Kettering Health’s blue transit van was traveling 45 miles per hour, according to the report.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 5:25 p.m. Friday, and not long after, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic. The coroner’s report indicated Cedeno-Melendez died at 5:42 p.m. at the scene of the accident.

Hamilton Police report the driver and the passenger of the Kettering Health vehicle were both transported to Kettering Health Hamilton for treatment.

A Kettering Health spokesperson confirmed a transport vehicle was involved, and there were no patients inside. They declined further comment, referring further questions to the investigators.
