“Derickson violated a student discipline procedure,” Hansel said. “So when the allegation was made, the district was required to investigate.”
Hansel and local law enforcement said there was no ongoing criminal investigation or civil lawsuit related to the matter.
“There will be no discipline issued in this case,” Hansel wrote. She went on to say she wasn’t legally able to go into more detail about what specifically happened to trigger the allegation. Derickson was paid during the week-long leave.
According to Hansel, the internal investigation into Derickson’s conduct was led by director of Human Resources Mike Malone. Malone declined to comment on the investigation.
Middle school parent-teacher group organizer John Brinck said no parents have reached out to him with questions about Derickson or the investigation into the incident.
Hansel released an email to Talawanda parents last week informing them of the investigation.
“Talawanda School District has placed an administrator on paid leave pending an investigation,” she wrote. “All TMS students are safe.”
