Sheriff’s NASCAR debut rained out at Kentucky Speedway

Rain cancelled the racing competition among area law enforcement who were scheduled to test their NASCAR driving skills today at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones and Lt. Mike Craft were scheduled to take the wheel of a stock car in the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Kentucky Speedway along with officers representing Cincinnati; Hamilton County; Florence, Ky.; Lexington, Ky.; Gallatin County, Ky.; Oldham County, Ky.; and the Kentucky State Police.

The officers went through a safety course and were getting familiar the the cars and track when rain cancelled their challenge.

Mike Schmaltz of Kentucky Speedway said the event will be rescheduled for the end of August. The exact date will be named at a later time.

The Top Cop Challenge was scheduled this week to raise awareness for Police Memorial Week, which began May 13.
