Balloon pilot Sean Askren said “everything is a go” for tonight’s Ohio Challenge, but he warned that could change because of inclement weather.
He said hot air balloon pilots are scheduled to compete tonight at Smith Park, then perform a balloon glow sometime after 8:30 p.m.
He said pilots will meet at 6:45 p.m. to review the weather forecast and make a final decision.

UPDATE @ 1:45 p.m.:
Balloon pilots for the Ohio Challenge are meeting at 2 p.m. today to discuss the weather and the impact it could have on tonight’s flights and balloon glow, according to pilot Sean Askren.
He said an announcement will be made around 4 p.m. today on the status of tonight’s balloon flights.
FIRST REPORT:
The festival portion of the Ohio Challenge is still scheduled, despite the forecast for severe weather tonight and Saturday, said Kathy Stites, event manager.

Balloonists will meet this afternoon to determine if they will participate tonight, she said. Because of weather, Stites said, balloons are “always iffy.”
The challenge is scheduled from 4 to 10:30 p.m. today and Saturday at Smith Park.
As many as 60,000 visitors are expected in Middletown over the weekend for the event, according to Stites.
