Thirty riders waited about 10 minutes before being escorted off the ride, Helbig said.
The ride stopped when a device on the coaster intended to keep cars separated detected a problem.
“Roller coasters have block systems,” he said. “Trains in front have to clear a block before the train behind it can be released past certain points. A train will occasionally stop on a lift hill waiting for the train in front to clear its block and then re-start.”
In this instance, the system wouldn’t allow the coaster to re-start, Helbig said.
The Beast, which is 7,359 feet long, is still the world’s longest wooden roller coaster.
The ride’s second drop is the longest at 141 feet, but the lift hill doesn’t stand as high as it drops, Helbig said.
The coaster was a little more than 100 feet when it stopped, he said. There are steps on the sides of the track to walk up or down the lift hill.
The ride reopened around 12:30 p.m., he said.
No injuries were reported.
