Queen City Cabaret and special guest Two Sketchy Dames will bring a night of music and comedy to audiences as “Perfectly Marvelous” comes to the stage in Hamilton next month.

“It will be a wonderful night of music, laughs and theater, and if you are a fan of ”The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” you’re going to have a great night out. There’s going to be a lot of tunes that you know,” said Ian MacKenzie-Thurley, executive director of the Fitton Center.

He said “Perfectly Marvelous” is inspired by the hit Amazon Prime series called “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which debuted in 2017. The series, set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, who goes from New York housewife to a stand-up comic.

Presented by Queen City Cabaret’s Sarah Folsom and Matthew Umphreys, along with Two Sketchy Dames — comprised of Alison Rampa and Eileen Earnest — the evening will celebrate women in comedy and the music of the hit television show.

“At Queen City Cabaret, we love to celebrate the music of the 1940s, ‘50s, and ’60s. That’s really our favorite place, and one of our favorite TV shows was ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which started around the same time that Queen City Cabaret was founded,” said Matthew Umphreys, co-founder and performer at Queen City Cabaret.

He and Sarah Folsom, co-founder, artist director and performer, always watched the show, and one thing they loved about it was the soundtrack.

“So, we thought, let’s do a show that zooms in on this music, and the whole vibe of the show,” Umphreys said.

Audiences can expect to hear jazz standards like “The Way You Look Tonight,” by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields, and “It’s a Good Day” by Peggy Lee. Plus, there’s musical theater favorites with songs from Stephen Sondheim, and pop hits from the 1950s like “Mr. Sandman” by the Chordettes and “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis.

“It’s a collection of all those treasured, vintage jazz and pop hits that have stayed relevant and important to people over time,” said Sarah Folsom.

Three guest artists, including two seniors from CCM’s Musical Theatre Program — Tomi Newman, and Madison Osment — along with CCM bassist, Sophia Troyer, will also be featured in the show.
