The first professional wrestling matches in Hamilton happened on Friday, with a sold-out crowd watching Future Great Wrestling’s debut at 190 N. Brookwood Ave.

But the events, which are called FGW (short for Future Great Wrestling) Friday Night Fury, will take at least a one-week break while more upgrades are made to the wrestling venue, said Brian LeVick, owner of Future Great Comics and Future Great Wrestling.

“It was a great turnout with different generations of people showing,” LeVick said. “Everyone seemed to of had great time and I saw a ton of smiles that night.”

City fire and building inspectors had required upgrades to the venue, and gave approval for the Friday event — where the doors opened at 6:30 p.m., with the first bell ringing at 7:30 p.m. — about an hour and a half before it started, LeVick said.

“On the flip side, they won’t let us have other shows until there’s some fixes in the arena,” LeVick said. “Best case scenario is that we’ll start our weekly shows in two weeks.”

Tickets cost $6 for general admission and $8 for front-row seats. Advance tickets for future shows can be purchased at earlier events, and on days afterward, at Future Great Comics, 528 Main St., in Hamilton.
