Police are investigating the sexual assault of a Middletown mother who said she was attacked in her home with her baby nearby.

The woman called police at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday from her home on Lafayette Avenue and told officers an unknown man had entered her residence through the front door that she believed was locked, according to the police report.

After feeding her baby, the woman said she went downstairs to smoke a cigarette in the kitchen when a man came up behind her, sexually assaulted her, and then ran out the back door.

“She was very emotionally distraught and feared for her safety,” according to a police report.

A Monroe Police canine attempted to locate the suspect, but was unable to do so.

The woman described the suspect as a Hispanic man wearing black jeans, a black hoodie and white shoes.
