The decades old annual “Mike Davis Shop With a Cop” happened Saturday with 70 kids and Middletown police employees shopping for Christmas presents.

The effort gives children in need $100 each to shop for toys or really anything they want to make their holiday brighter.

Middletown schools and officers provide the names of children needing help to make their holiday special, said Mary Miller, organizer.

“They can get whatever they want that is age appropriate,” she said.

Shopping began early at Meijer in Middletown before the crowds and continued for several hours.

In addition to hosting the shopping spree with a dedicated team of cashiers, Meijer donated $5,000 to the effort, Miller said.

Other donors this year are: Grand Temple Phythian Sisters of Ohio, Homemakers Circle 9, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Hoff, and the Ohio Highway State Patrol.
