Ohio State student fatally shot was proponent of guns on campus

An Ohio State University student who was a proponent of carrying concealed guns on campus was shot and killed in an off-campus apartment today.

Tarak Underiner, a 20-year-old Ohio State student and Colerain High School (Cincinnati) graduate, was shot and killed early this morning, according to Columbus police.

Police responded to 28 E. Northwood Ave. around 12:30 a.m. after someone called 911, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Underiner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they do not believe Underiner was a random victim and that the slaying does not have “any connection” to the university, the Dispatch reported.

Underiner was a proponent of carrying concealed guns on campus.

A little more than a month ago, Underiner testified at the Statehouse in support of allowing concealed handguns on Ohio college campuses, the Dispatch reported.

“College campuses and the areas surrounding them present environments rich with potential victims,” Underiner testified. “They’re willing to gamble we’re unarmed and it pays off.”
