“Like the west playground, which was replaced a couple years ago, this equipment was well-loved and reached the end of its useful life,” Community Services Director Tim Franck said in a statement. “These playgrounds typically last about 20 years before safety concerns, cost of repairs and availability of replacement parts makes maintenance impractical.”
The new playground will include four slides, monkey bars, a climbing pole, a balance beam and an “Xcelerator” spinning feature designed for children ages 5-12, according to the township.

An existing playground, designed for children ages 2-5 and a swing set will remain.
The project was awarded to David Williams and Associates and the equipment will be manufactured by GameTime. Major improvements to Keehner Park since 2015 have included new playgrounds, remodeled restroom facilities, staining of the amphitheatre, cedar roof shingles and a re-finished porch for the Cabin in the Clearing, and a re-paved west parking loop.
A project to re-roof all park shelters is underway and expected to be finished in 2019, according to the township.
