Monroe police: Son shot dad in self-defense

Monroe police say a fatal shooting last weekend appears to have been done in self-defense.

“Based on all the information gathered to this point it appears that Colin Bailey acted in self-defense. No charges are pending against Colin Bailey and he is not in custody,” said Monroe police Officer Josh King in a statement.

Bailey, 19, allegedly shot and killed his father Aug. 5 during a domestic disturbance at their Teil Tree Court home.

Christopher Bailey, 46, was shot once by Colin Bailey at about 12:19 a.m. Aug. 5, according to police.

Christopher Bailey was taken to Atrium Medical Center, where he died about an hour later, according to the Warren County Coroner’s Office.

According to the report, police were called to the residence “for an intoxicated male threatening suicide. Upon arrival it was discovered a domestic situation occurred between father and son.”
