The checkpoints, along with saturation patrols, are our continuing effort to reduce OVI related crashes resulting in injuries and fatalities.
The task force conducted a checkpoint in West Chester Twp. on Friday. Friday’s checkpoint was the first in Butler County since February.
Over the course of Friday’s 3-½-hour checkpoint at westbound Tylersville Road and Crosley Way, 737 vehicles came through the area, and 709 were checked, said Pete Reising, the task force coordinator. There was a period of time where vehicles were flagged through due to traffic back up, he said.
Only one vehicle was diverted for further investigation, but there were no arrests nor citations issued, Reising said.
The Butler County OVI Task Force plans to conduct another OVI checkpoint on July 24. The time and location of that checkpoint will be released on July 24.
Reising said the increased frequency of checkpoints will hopefully decrease alcohol-related crashes to zero. There was one alcohol-related crash in March, and one in June. There has been one fatal alcohol-related crash in July.
The Butler County OVI Task Force is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
