Middletown investigating house fire; 1 resident displaced

The fire caused $39,000 in damages to the structure and $10,000 to the contents, according to the fire report.

A house next door also suffered damage, Spaulding said.

The resident escaped unharmed and no firefighter were injured, Spaulding said.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the resident. Don Hawkins, a spokesman for the Red Cross, said the resident was provided an undisclosed amount of cash for “emergency financial assistance.” A case also was opened and the resident will be assisted by experts throughout the process.

Hawkins called fires like this “the worst day of your life.”
