U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $341,511 to the city of Middletown for upgrades to Hook Field at the Middletown Regional Airport.

“The Middletown Regional Airport supports tourism and commerce in Butler County,” Brown said. “This funding will improve the safety and efficiency of the airport so it can remain a reliable option for the county.”

Three years ago, the city was awarded $320,000 to realign 1,100 feet of its existing access roads.

Last year, the city of Middletown received a $1.1 million grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation at the end of its Fiscal year 2016 program for a rehabilitation and resurfacing project for its taxi ways and ramps.

This grant to the Middletown Regional Airport will go toward updating the airport master plan study, a rotating beacon replacement and a wildlife hazard assessment.
