The Middletown City Council will consider an emergency ordinance to contract with Yokum Fireworks to provide the fireworks for Middletown’s annual Independence Day celebration on July 3 at Smith Park for up to $35,000.

City officials said $25,000 will come from the 2019 recreation fund budget with the remaining $10,000 will come out of the 2020 general fund budget.

This will be the first year Yokum will provide the fireworks show for the city of Middletown.

The Cincinnati-based company has presented fireworks shows in the past for The Ohio Challenge hot-air balloon event, the Light Up Liberty event in Liberty Twp., and for the Sparks in the Park event in Hunter sponsored by Franklin Twp.

City officials are requesting that council approve the ordinance as an emergency so that 2019 budget funds could be appropriated for the 2020 event.
