The Marlin & Ray’s, located at 7701 Voice of America Centre Drive, opened Feb. 22, 2012, said Joe Hinson, president and CEO of the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance. Hinson said the restaurant became a fast member of the chamber after opening and hosted several Business After Hours events.
“Marlin & Ray’s was active in the community and quickly showed they were willing to give back,” Hinson said. “They were good partners.”
Included in the second quarter results is a charge of $16.9 million before taxes related to decisions to close and exit the Marlin & Ray’s and Wok Hay concepts, close two company Lime Fresh restaurants, and seek a buyer for the Truffles Grill license, according to Ruby Tuesday.
For the fiscal second quarter the year before, Ruby Tuesday reported a net loss of approximately $2 million. Buettgen said it’s the company “most critical priority” to focus on driving profitable sales at Ruby Tuesday locations.
“While this was a difficult decision to make, we have determined the Marlin & Ray’s brand is not an optimal conversion vehicle for us going forward,” Buettgen said.
Meridith Hammond, spokeswoman for Ruby Tuesday, said the company is working to ensure the employees affected by these closures are given opportunities at other Ruby Tuesday or Lime Fresh restaurants. She said each Marlin & Ray’s employed between 33 to 60 team members.
“As we make these difficult decisions, we want to let the team members of these closed restaurants know that we appreciate their passion and commitment and we are working to ensure the employees affected by these planned closures are given opportunities at other Ruby Tuesday or Lime Fresh restaurants,” Buettgen said.
