Man set to prison for ‘bath salts’ conviction

A Cincinnati man facing seven felony charges in connection with “bath salt” trafficking at a Lebanon gas station has pleaded guilty to four of the charges and has been sent to prison.

Haitham M. Shalash, 21, was sentenced Monday by Warren County Common Pleas Judge Donald Oda II to five years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Police received tips that “hallucinogenic” substances were being sold out of the Marathon gas station across from the fairgrounds in Lebanon, and Shalash and five others were indicted a year ago. Police obtained a search warrant for the gas station on Ohio 48 and found 100 containers of K2/Spice in a storeroom and more of the drug and bath salts under the counter.

The owner of the station, Hamza Shalash, 22, also of Cincinnati and a relative of Haitham, was sentence to 11 years in prison in May following a jury trial. Three others involved in the case either had their case dropped or received community control.
