A 16-year-old, whom Middletown police say was the shooter, earlier admitted guilt in Booker’s death, which stemmed from a dispute over money at a Yankee Road residence.
Jaiquan Singletary, 16, whose case was in adult court, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a bill of information earlier this month in Butler County Common Pleas Court. Singletary was originally charged with murder, and his case was bound over from juvenile court to adult court. A bill of information is a waiver of grand jury indictment and an agreement on the charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
Middletown police say the teen shot Booker, 36, in a dispute over $10. Police were called at 7:44 p.m. on May 13 to the 1400 block of Yankee Road, where they found Booker seriously injured from gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Booker’s mother called 911 and told dispatchers Booker had been shot. Police said Booker took $10 from a shelf in the home his mother shared with Scott’s father, which started the argument that led to the shooting. Scott was originally charged with murder, but that charge was later amended to complicity to murder following further investigation by police.
The grand jury did not return an indictment against Scott for complicity to murder.
Scott is free on bond. He is scheduled to be in Butler County Common Pleas Court on Thursday for arraignment.
The teen was charged after he filed a lie detector test, according to police. Police say Scott is charged because he allegedly gave the gun to the teen and they fled out of state together.
