An 11-year-old Madison Local Schools elementary student has died after an accident Thursday night in Madison Twp.

The child was struck by an SUV around 7 p.m. in a driveway in the 6800 block of Cloister Cliffs Drive, near Brown’s Run golf course. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the child was taken by a medical helicopter to a Dayton hospital and died of the injuries.

Madison Schools announced the district is closed today.

“We are heartbroken to inform you of a tragic accident involving a(n) elementary student from our Mohawk family,” reads a message from the Madison Local School District made early Friday morning. “In light of this devastating event, there will be no school today for all students.”

Staff is still working today, the district said.

The district said it will have counselors available at the elementary school at 9 a.m. “for anyone needing support with this tragedy.”

Officials have not released the name of the child involved in the accident.

“My thoughts and prayers go to the family and first responders to the scene,” said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

The accident remains under investigation by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office does not issue preliminary autopsy reports, and full reports can take up to 8 weeks.
