MORE: West Chester officer cited for OVI received praise from MADD
Judge Joyce Campbell gave Madama 180 days in jail, suspended 177 days if he completes a four-day alcohol program and placed him on one-year probation. He was also given a $1,000 fine with $750 suspended. Roberts said it was Madama’s first OVI citation.
Campbell also stayed Madama’s automatic license suspension until the outcome of the case.
Madama told the arresting officer he was a “4” on a 10-point scale of intoxication, with one being “slightly buzzed” and 10 “very intoxicated.”
Madama told the trooper who stopped him he had three drinks while he was DJing at a nearby bar, according to a police report.
He submitted to a portable breathalyzer, and his blood-alcohol content was 0.166.
Township spokeswoman Barb Wilson said Madama has been on the force since 1999. Madama was placed on administrative duty after the arrest, and his status remains the same, she said today.
