HAMILTON — It might be on a larger scale but the new Walt’s Barbeque was built from the same roots as its counterparts.

Changes at the new restaurant, located at 746 N.W. Washington Blvd., include more than 15 televisions, 20 beers on tap, NFL Ticket TV and later hours. The restaurant is 7,000 square feet, nearly three times bigger than the Main Street location, said Walt Bohn, owner.

Bohn may add a few new menu items but the market will dictate the menu. “We would like to go after the 35 and up crowd,” Bohn said. “Families are gone by 9:30 p.m.”

Karaoke will be available one night a week, Bohn said, with live music featured occasionally.

Bohn said the restaurant should open either Tuesday, Sept. 7, or Wednesday, Sept. 8. The Main Street location closes Sunday, Sept. 5.

Bohn’s wive Lolita will be converting the Main Street location into Lolita’s Cantina & Grill — a Mexican and South American restaurant. After painting and tiling, Lolita’s should be open by mid-September.

Lolita Bohn has influences from Guatemala and Argentina and will use those in her homemade sauces. Special dishes will be showcased two to three days a week.

“I got recipes from family and friends,” Lolita Bohn said. “It’s always exciting to know you’re entering something new.”

Bohn said he was approached by the building owner about opening a restaurant and has been working on it since mid-May.

“I have a good reputation in the tristate area,” Bohn said. “I had an offer at Bridgewater Falls (Fairfield Twp. shopping center) but this was a better fit.”

Bohn emphasizes giving back to the community, with a community night every Monday. Different groups hold fundraisers at Walt’s and 10 percent of the night’s proceeds go to the group.
