Police: SWAT incident a case of mistaken identity in Franklin

UPDATE @ 10 p.m.

A Franklin SWAT incident ends after officers learn the presumed suspect was at work the entire time.

The incident in the 1100 block of South Main Street started after a Franklin police officer spotted a motorcycle just after 2:45 p.m. traveling on south River Street at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his overhead emergency lights to pull over the rider. Instead of stopping, the rider momentarily looked back at the officer and then accelerated, Franklin police Lt. Brian Pacifico said.

The officer found the motorcycle between residences in the 1100 block of South Main Street. The motorcycle rider had a similar appearance to a man who lives at one of the residences who is known to police and known to have weapons. Because of this, the Warren County Tactical Response Team was called to the scene, the lieutenant said.

No one would come out of the house, and negotiations made contact with the resident on his cellphone, who was at his job. The tactical team left once police confirmed he had been at work the entire time, Pacifico said.

Police later learned the motorcycle was stolen in Miamisburg. The suspect who was riding it is still at large. Anyone with information is urged to call Franklin police Sgt. Shannon Cotton or detective Scott Brown, 937-746-2882.
