Officers were dispatched to the Oxford Walmart store on a report of two women allegedly shoplifting merchandise, and the incident ended in a drug charge, according to a police report.

One officer spoke to a loss prevention associate outside the store and when they entered the store on the grocery side, an employee told them one of the women had been stopped attempting to leave on the home goods side.

She was identified as Jennie Gumm, 45, and told to come to the loss prevention office. The other woman was found standing in line at a checkout and was also asked to come to the office. This was shortly after 7 p.m. Dec. 22.

The two women were questioned about allegedly shoplifting jewelry.

Gumm handed over two women’s fashion rings of the Believe by Brilliance brand, silver in color with fake gems mounted in them. One had three red gems surrounded by cubic zirconia and the other had a large blue gem surrounded by cubic zirconia. They were valued at $12.94 each.

The loss prevention associate showed the officer the boxes they had been in on a shelf in the jewelry section. The boxes had been left on a shelf in the vacuum section. Each box had a security tag which would have set off the alarm had they been taken to the door. The associate told the officer she had seen Gumm remove other rings from the display but those were not located.

The second woman was not charged in the incident but became agitated and began pulling various papers and money cards out of her pockets when asked if she had anything on her.

The loss prevention associate filled out paperwork to trespass both women from all Walmart properties so they are no longer allowed in any of them.

Neither woman had any other items that appeared to have been stolen but Gumm was in possession of an empty cigarette pack which allegedly contained six white, round tablets imprinted with “RP” on the sides. She said they were prescription pills but she no longer had the prescription container.

In her purse was found a baggie with a small amount of a white crystal substance, a marijuana grinder and a black canister. The pills and crystal substance were sent to the lab for analysis with possible charges pending.

Gumm was charged with theft and taken to the Butler County Jail.
