SCHOOL NEWS: Butler County school orders all student bags searched before classes
The teen ran toward a wooded area at the backside of the complex, which was also in the direction of two elementary schools, Sacred Heart and Fairfield West. Both schools were placed on lockdown until police caught the suspect.
Officers were dispatched at 1:31 p.m. Thursday, and the teen was apprehended with the assistance of a Woodlawn K9 officer in the 5000 block of River Road, which was near the Marathon gas station and between both schools.
The teen was charged with receiving stolen property because the weapon was reported stolen out of Hamilton, and then transported to the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident was over by 2:15 p.m., and the lockdowns were lifted shortly after, Day said.
The teen appeared in juvenile court Friday morning, but a parent or custodian did not show for the hearing, said Rob Clevenger, Butler County Juvenile Court administrator. The case was continued for a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and the teen was remanded back to the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.
