Man arrested in shooting of Circle K clerk in Hamilton

UPDATE @ 9:25 a.m: 

Hamilton police have arrested a man suspected of shooting a Circle K clerk early Friday morning.

Roger Tyrese Smith, 20, was arrested this morning. According to Hamilton Municipal Court records, he is charged with felonious assault and discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises.

Bond was set at $250,000 by Judge Dan Gattermeyer. Smith is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on July 19.

Authorities and a K-9 unit responded to the business, located at 2206 Grand Boulevard, for a person shot around 12:30 a.m.

Smith “had a verbal altercation” with the clerk, left the store, returned and shot the clerk in the leg from across the street, according to Hamilton police. The clerk was identified as Christopher Emmert, 39.

 

The employee of the store, whose name was not released, was found with a non-life threatening gun shot wound, according to a release.

 

The K-9 unit was able to track to a location on VanBuren Court where the person of interest was found.

The individual, whose name was also not released, was brought into police headquarters. No word on if the person of interest is being charged in the shooting at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by Hamilton police detectives.
