The township’s zoning commission unanimously recommended the YMCA be approved by the township’s trustees Monday during a regularly scheduled meeting. Trustees will consider construction of the facility sometime next month.
Once built, the two-story West Chester YMCA will include a workout facility, athletic fields, a 65,000-square-foot outdoor pool area, and nearly 300 parking spaces, according to development plan document submitted to the township.
The Lakota Family YMCA currently operates a recreational facility, which features a gymnasium, workout facility and indoor and outdoor pools, on Yankee Road in Liberty Twp.
West Chester Twp., a municipality of roughly 61,000 resident, doesn’t currently have a comparable family recreational center such as the YMCA, Juengling said.

The township will likely have to add a traffic light to the boulevard, she said.
